The recruitment follows a transparent three-stage process:
Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (Screening Test)
- Two papers: General Studies (Paper I) & Aptitude Test (Paper II)
- Marks: 200 marks each, 2 hours per paper
- Format: Multiple-choice questions with negative marking (1/3 marks deducted for wrong answers)
- Qualifying Marks: 33% for unreserved, 23% for reserved categories
- Important: Paper II (Aptitude) is only qualifying; merit for Main Exam is based on Paper I only
- Prelims marks are NOT counted in final selection
Stage 2: Main Examination (Descriptive Papers)
- Seven papers: Language, Essay, and General Studies I to V
- Marks: 200 marks each = Total 1400 marks
- Duration: 3 hours per paper
- Format: Conventional/descriptive type questions
- Qualifying Marks: Same as Prelims (33% & 23%)
- Mandatory: Must appear in all papers; absence in any paper = disqualification
Stage 3: Interview/Personality Test
- Marks: 100 marks
- Selection Ratio: Top candidates (approximately 3 times the number of posts)
- Final Merit: Prepared on aggregate of Main Exam (1400) + Interview (100)
