Employment Nature: GDS are not regular government employees but work on engagement basis with benefits similar to contract workers.

Work Requirement: You’ll work minimum 4 hours and maximum 5 hours per day, delivering mail and managing postal services in your locality.


🎓 Educational Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:

  • 10th Standard (Class X) Pass with passing marks in both Mathematics and English
  • Certificate from any recognized Board of School Education (CBSE, State Board, etc.)

Additional Language Requirement:

  • You must have studied the local language of your state at least up to 10th standard from a recognized board
  • This ensures you can communicate with customers in local language

Essential Skills:

  • Computer Knowledge: Basic computer literacy is mandatory
  • Cycling Knowledge: Ability to ride a bicycle (for mail delivery)
  • Adequate Source of Income: You must have another means of livelihood besides this job

Desirable Qualifications:

How Salary Works:

You receive payment in the form of Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA), which increases by 3% every year if you complete the required conditions. This is not a fixed salary but a performance-based allowance.

🎯 Selection Process

The selection process is completely merit-based and transparent:

Step 1: Application & Registration You need to register online first, then submit your application with all details.

Step 2: Merit List Preparation India Post will create a merit list based on your 10th class marks. Higher marks = Better ranking. Your percentage will be calculated to 4 decimal places for accuracy.

For Grades/CGPA: If your marks are in grades, they’ll be converted to marks using a formula (Multiply by 9.5).

Step 3: Category-wise Ranking After merit ranking, candidates are arranged category-wise (SC/ST, OBC, EWS, General). Within each category, selection starts from highest marks.

Step 4: Tie-Breaking Rules If two candidates have the same marks, selection is decided by:

  • Age: Older candidate gets preference
  • Category: ST Trans-woman → ST Female → SC Trans-woman → SC Female → OBC Trans-woman → OBC Female → EWS Trans-woman → EWS Female → General Trans-woman → General Female

Step 5: Shortlist & Notification Shortlisted candidates are notified through SMS and email on their registered mobile and email.

Step 6: Document Verification You must submit original documents at the Division/Unit office. This includes:

  • 10th standard certificate
  • Local language certificate
  • Identity proof
  • Address proof

Step 7: Final Offer After verification, you’ll get a “Provisional Engagement Offer” from the system automatically.

Step 8: Pre-Engagement Training You must complete 3 days basic training and arrange accommodation (if applying for BPM).

Step 9: Final Engagement After police verification and all checks, you’ll receive the Final Order of Engagement.


📑 How to Apply

Step 1: Create One-Time Registration

  • Visit: https://indiapost.gov.in/gdsonlineengagement
  • Click on “Candidate Login/Register”
  • Click “New Candidate Registration”
  • Enter your active mobile number (you’ll receive OTP for verification)
  • Enter your active email ID (you’ll receive verification email)
  • Enter your 10th standard board name and passing year
  • Create a strong password
  • Complete your registration

After registration, you’ll get a Registration Number. Save it!

Step 2: Login and Fill Application

  • Visit the same portal
  • Login using your Registration Number and Password
  • Fill your personal details accurately:
    • Full Name (exactly as in 10th certificate)
    • Father’s Name
    • Mother’s Name
    • Date of Birth
    • Address (permanent and current)
    • Phone number
    • Email

Step 3: Fill Educational Details

  • Enter 10th standard board name and year
  • Enter your total marks and percentage
  • Enter local language studied
  • Upload recent photograph (JPG/JPEG, 30-100 KB, 320×400 pixels)
  • Upload signature (JPG/JPEG, 20-100 KB, 300×120 pixels)

Photo & Signature Tips:

  • Use recent colored photo with clear face
  • Wear simple dress, neutral background
  • Signature should be black ink on white paper
  • Both should be clear and not blurred

Step 4: Select Division and Post Preferences

  • Choose the State/Division where you want to work
  • Select your post type preference:
    • BPM (Branch Postmaster)
    • ABPM (Assistant Branch Postmaster)
    • Dak Sevak
  • You can give preferences for multiple posts in your chosen division
  • If selected for multiple posts, only first preference will be offered

Note: You can apply for only one division but multiple posts within that division.

Step 5: Pay Application Fee

  • Fee Amount:
    • General/OBC/EWS candidates: Rs. 100
    • Free for: All women, SC/ST, PwBD, Trans-women
  • Payment Mode: Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking, or UPI
  • Complete payment before final submission
  • Keep payment confirmation

Step 6: Review & Submit

  • Preview all your information
  • Ensure everything is correct
  • Click final “Submit” button
  • You’ll receive confirmation message and reference number
  • Save your reference number

Step 7: Correction Window (If Needed)

  • On 18-19 February, you can edit your details
  • Login and make necessary corrections
  • Submit corrected form before 5:00 PM on 19 February
