Essential Requirements (All Posts)
Basic Qualification:
- First Division (60% marks or 6.5 CGPA on 10-point scale) in both UG and PG degree
- PhD in relevant or equivalent discipline is mandatory for new entrants
Discipline-Specific Requirements
For Engineering Departments:
- Bachelor’s and Master’s in Engineering with PhD in relevant branch, OR
- Integrated UG/PG degree with PhD, OR
- UG with Integrated PG & PhD
For Physics/Chemistry:
- BSc/MSc or Integrated MSc with PhD in relevant subject
For Mathematics & Computing:
- Specified combinations of B.Tech/M.Tech or BSc/MSc with PhD in relevant fields

- PhD in Management with Bachelor’s + MBA/PGDM or Integrated Master’s

🎯 Selection Process
The selection process consists of:
- Screening/Shortlisting: Department may set higher criteria than minimum requirements
- Presentation: Candidates present their research/teaching work before the department
- Interview: Only candidates who clear the presentation are called for interview by Selection Committee
- Final Selection: Selection Committee recommends candidates to Board of Governors
- Probation: Selected candidates will serve probation period as per institute rules
Special Provision: Candidates with overseas Post-doctoral Fellowship (1+ year in QS/THE top 500 institutions) may get direct call for presentation/interview.
⏳ Age Limit
- Fresh appointment beyond the age of 60 years is generally discouraged
- Exception: Candidates with exceptionally brilliant research/academic career and ongoing/approved externally funded research projects may be considered

- Existing NIT Jalandhar Faculty: Can apply for higher pay level without vacancy constraint on specialization
- No Inbreeding Policy: PhD holders from NIT Jalandhar are ineligible for 3 years after acquiring PhD
- Reservation Policy: As per Government of India norms, including PwBD (9 vacancies) and backlog vacancies (SC-8, ST-8, OBC-26)
