Sub-Officer: 20-24 years only
Constable Grade-III, Bandman, Bugler, Forester Grade-I, Game Watcher, Forest Guard: 18-40 years
AFPF Constable, Constable (WO/WT), Constable (UB), Fireman, Emergency Rescuer, Boatman: 18-25 years

Age Relaxations (Extra years beyond the limits):

  • SC/ST (Plain & Hill) candidates: 5 extra years
  • OBC/MOBC candidates: 3 extra years
  • Trained Home Guards (3+ years service): Additional 3 years (for Constables only)

🎯 Selection Process

Selection involves multiple stages. This tests both your physical fitness and knowledge.

Stage 1: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) – 40 Marks

This is the first physical test. You must pass this to move forward.

For Male Candidates:

  • 3,200 Meters Race (20 marks):
    • Must complete within 14 minutes (840 seconds)
    • Full 20 marks for completing in 10 minutes or less
    • Marks reduce based on time taken
    • Electronic timing with CCTV cameras
  • Long Jump (20 marks):
    • Minimum required: 335 cm (3.35 meters)
    • 3 attempts allowed; best jump counts
    • Full 20 marks for 500 cm (5 meters) or more
    • Test conducted under CCTV surveillance

For Female Candidates:

  • 1,600 Meters Race (20 marks):
    • Must complete within 8 minutes (480 seconds)
    • Full 20 marks for completing in 5.5 minutes or less
    • Electronic timing with CCTV cameras
  • Long Jump (20 marks):
    • Minimum required: 244 cm (2.44 meters)
    • 3 attempts allowed; best jump counts
    • Full 20 marks for 389 cm (3.89 meters) or more

Stage 2: Medical Examination

After passing PET, candidates are checked for:

  • General health status
  • Eye sight (must be 6/6 in at least one eye)
  • Hearing ability
  • Blood pressure and other vitals
  • Medical fitness as per government standards
  • Cannot have: Color blindness, serious heart disease, diabetes, severe piles, respiratory diseases, flat foot, or physical deformities

Stage 3: Physical Standard Test (PST) – Qualifying Only

After medical exam, your physical measurements are checked. There are no marks for this—you either qualify or don’t.

Stage 4: Written Test – 50 or 100 Marks

For Forester Grade-I (100 Marks):

  • 100 multiple-choice questions

  • Subjects: Logical reasoning, Aptitude, English, Assam & India history-culture, General Knowledge

For All Other Posts (50 Marks):

  • 100 multiple-choice questions

  • Subjects: Arithmetic, English, Logic/Mental ability, Assam history-geography-politics-economy, GK & Current affairs

Shortlisting: About 5 times the number of posts will be selected for written test based on PET performance.

Stage 5: Walking Test (Qualifying – For Forest Guard Posts Only)

For Forester Grade-I & Forest Guard only (No marks):

  • Male: 26 KM to be covered within 4 hours
  • Female: 16 KM to be covered within 4 hours
  • This is a qualifying test—pass or fail, no marks awarded

Stage 6: Interview/Oral Viva Voce – 5 Marks

About 2 times the vacancies will be called for interview based on combined PET + Written Test marks.

  • Personal interview to assess communication, knowledge, and suitability
  • 5 marks awarded based on performance

Stage 7: Specialized Tests (For Certain Posts Only)

For Boatman (Swimming & Boating Test – 10 Marks):
