🎓 Educational Qualifications

For Legal Consultant (9 Posts):

✓ Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university
✓ Enrolled with the Bar Council
Minimum 3 years continuous legal practice before Constitutional Courts and/or Statutory Tribunals in India
✓ Fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking)
✓ Reasonable knowledge of Tamil language

For Senior Legal Consultant (1 Post):

✓ Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university
✓ Enrolled with the Bar Council
Minimum 5+ years continuous legal practice before Constitutional Courts and/or Statutory Tribunals in India
✓ Fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking)
✓ Reasonable knowledge of Tamil language

Additional Preferences:

✓ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical) in addition to LLB is highly preferred

Important Eligibility Conditions:

  • Must have completed all degree examinations during your regular course period
  • Currently pursuing any Post Graduate degree is NOT eligible
  • Cannot be a member of any political party
  • Cannot hold any public or private office, including Panchayat membership
  • Must not be a criminal convict (including under Section 138, Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881)
  • No pending criminal cases or investigations
  • Must be an Indian citizen

💰 Salary & Stipend Details (Per Month)

🎯 Selection Process

The recruitment follows a merit-based selection process:

Stage 1 – Application Submission: Submit offline application with all required documents

Stage 2 – Document Verification: Your qualifications, legal practice certificates, and Bar Council enrollment are verified

Stage 3 – Shortlisting: Meritorious and eligible candidates are shortlisted based on academic marks in LLB degree

Stage 4 – Viva-Voce Interview: Selected candidates appear for face-to-face interview in Chennai (at their own expense)

Stage 5 – Selection Committee: A committee nominated by the Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of TNPDCL reviews candidates and makes final recommendations

Stage 6 – Document Verification at Interview: Candidates must present original certificates and testimonials for verification during the viva-voce

Merit Consideration:

  • Academic marks in LLB degree form the basis
  • Candidates with Engineering degree (Electrical/Mechanical) + LLB are given preference
  • Final selection made by the Committee with CMD approval

📋 Important Terms of Engagement

Duration: Temporary/adhoc engagement for:

  • Initial: 2 years
  • Extendable: 1 year at a time (maximum total engagement: 5 years)
  • Automatic Termination: After 3 years (unless extended)

Conditions:

  • Not a regular employee – no claim for permanency
  • Employment can be discontinued without notice if services are unsatisfactory
  • Must report for duty within the specified period (no extensions allowed)
  • Subject to satisfactory performance evaluation

Responsibilities:

  • Full-time legal and para-legal work assistance
  • Prepare legal drafts and opinions
  • Identify legal issues, documents, and relevant citations
  • Follow-up on legal matters
  • Prepare statistical reports and compliance monitoring
  • Attendance required at designated offices (Chennai, Madurai, or New Delhi)

Leave Entitlement:

  • Casual leave: 1 day per calendar month (maximum 12 days per year)
  • Carry-forward within the same year; excess days result in honorarium deduction

Restrictions:

  • Cannot practice law for others during engagement
  • Cannot take up any other employment during the period
  • Cannot accept legal briefs from TNEB/subsidiaries during engagement and 1 year after
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality
  • Cannot disclose any official information or documents
